The mum of tragic West Belfast schoolboy Leon Carlisle is heading to Dublin this weekend aiming for an emotional tribute from his favourite singer.

The 11-year-old died after a tragic accident in his New Barnsley home in September last year.

His mum Lisa will be at the 3Arena on Saturday night to see American star Ariana Grande take to the stage – and she’s hoping specially-made banners will catch the attention of the 23-year-old pop princess.

She has also made leaflets which she will be circulating at the gig in the hope to get the shoot-out which would mean so much to the whole family of the popular pupil at St Mary’s Christian Brother Grammar School.

Leon was a massive music fan and always dreamed of being a star in the States.

Lisa told Belfast Live: “We would love for Ariana to give Leon a shout out in Dublin this weekend in memory of Leon as her No1 fan.

“Leon loved Ariana and he always wanted to become a famous singer or actor who lived in New York. He loved Ariana ever since he watched her on Victorious.

“Even though she was not the star of the show Leon loved her because she was so silly and had an amazing voice, she was his favourite and she is a star now.

“He would always ask me, ‘Mummy how do I get on that show or a show like that, what do I have to do?’.

“He told all his friends that he would be rich and famous and would live in New York with all the stars such as Ariana, Lady Gaga and Rhianna as these were all his favourite artists.”

Tributes to Leon came from far and wide following his death.

His family launched a campaign to get Ariana to bring her tour to Belfast but they have got the next-best thing with this show in Dublin.

Lisa added: “We know it’s a long shot trying to get Ariana to give Leon a shout out but as his mummy I really have to try for him because he would be at that concert on Saturday if he was here and I know no matter where he is right now it will mean the world to him and all his family.

“I truly believed every word he said when he had all his plans to become a star who lived in New York because he had the talent, personality, looks and style and was full of confidence.

“He truly was and is a star to us.”
