Bella Thorne Claims Perez Hilton’s Instagram Post Invited Slut Shaming

https://www.allure.com/topic/bella-thorne) is not afraid to stick up for herself, and after Perez Hilton posted a shot of her on social media, Bella is doing exactly that.

Perez posted a photos of Bella on Instagram and Twitter in which her lower breast is showing from under her cropped sweatshirt as she gestures with her arm. He captioned it “Fill in the blank! ” One of Bella’s fans called Perez out, saying the blank on a photo of her that reveals part of her breast is inviting slut-shaming and body-shaming, and from the comments on Perez’s posts, it seems the fan was right. While Perez said he didn’t intend for anyone to shame Bella in any way, Bella disagreed. She clapped back at Perez in her own response to his post, saying she thinks he wanted people to pick on her.

Twitter user @J1inx1 tweeted at Perez, accusing him of body shaming.

“Remember when @ThePerezHilton pledged to be kinder? But he’s still out here trying to pass his body shaming and insults as “opinions” #fake,” @J1nx1 wrote.

Perez responded, wondering when he body shamed anyone, which is when @J1nx1 said “You posted a picture of @bellathorne with a fill in the blank because you knew people would body and slut shame her. Same thing.” Perez responded with an “I disagree,” and that’s when Bella chimed in.

“Honestly I don’t. You know I love you p but I think it’s kinda rude to use the pic my shirt is riding up and I’m in the middle of talking,” she wrote. “Esp when there’s a lot of great photos. Kinda seems like you want more people to pick on me. 🙁 if I wasn’t sad enough about it already.”

Bella also called out Perez for tagging people she’s dated or has been rumored to date in the photo, like Charlie Puth, Gregg Sulkin, and Blackbear.

“And then you tag charlie and like other guys on my body trying to start drama and trying to make me feel disgusting..like they own my body,” she wrote.

Perez claimed the tagging was so the photo would show up in more searches, and apologized. That’s important, but then Perez said he’d do it again.

“YOU WOULD DO IT AGAIN!? R u serious? Yeah you would like posting a photo of Ariel [Winter] in a bikini to get views on a podcast?” Bella responded. “I hope no one does this to your daughter.”

While Perez says he wasn’t trying to open up Bella to body or slut shaming, and we have to believe him when he says that, the fact is that many did shame Bella as a result of Perez’s post. People commented on the appearance of her breasts, called her “trashy,” “slutty” and “easy,” and worse. Luckily, some of Bella’s fans came to her defense, pointing out that she’s a human who can make her own choices — and that’s exactly right. Bella should not be shamed for her body, her clothes, or anything else because she has the right to do whatever she wants. Bella’s clothes and appearance don’t say anything about her personality or actions. We’re glad Bella is sticking up for herself, but it’s unfortunate that she has to in the first place.
