The premiere of Thor: Ragnarok made for a surprisingly fashionable red carpet on Tuesday night. Everyone from Tessa Thompson to Cate Blanchett to Tom Hiddleston suited up in their best and boldest for the occasion. Even Miley Cyrus, who just over a year ago compared walking a red carpet to Zoolander and swore them off for good, made a rare appearance with on-again, off-again, now-on-again fiancé Liam Hemsworth.
The shining star of the evening, however, was Cate Blanchett, who dazzled in a mid-length, sparkling gold turtleneck dress by Gucci paired with black pumps. Just to make sure everyone was truly blinded by her presence, she added an emerald necklace as the finishing touch. It wasn’t entirely about glamour, though; the actress also took the time to address the sexual abuse allegations against Harvey Weinstein.
Gold appeared to be a theme for the night, with Blanchett’s co-star Tessa Thompson wearing a strapless gold gown by Schiaparelli, belted at the waist with a dragonfly pendant. Thompson has also added her voice to those condemning Weinstein, telling The Independent, “It’s something that I have experienced in a more benign sense by just feeling like I’m not treated with the same respect, professional respect as my male cohorts are. Sometimes you can get so anesthetized you sort of think that’s the way it is and because you love what you do you just work through it. I’m really inspired by the women who are brave enough to talk about it and also the women who don’t want to, and I really admire the men who have stepped forward.”
