It's a duel of the divas – Etta vs. Beyonce!
When Beyonce Knowles played Etta James in Cadillac Records, James had nothing but nice things to say about the youngger woman. But, after Beyonce sang the older woman's "At Last" at President Barrack Obama's inaugural, it became war.
"At Last" is James' signature ballad. Beyonce sang it for the President and First Lady at the Neighborhood Ball. James took an oath at this and blasted the performer and the president at a show at the Seattle Paramount Theater a few days later.
Interestingly, Knowles has sung the ballad several times since Cadillac Records came out including at least once in front of James with no problems.
Later Etta would try to backtrack on the comments telling MSNBC that it was all a joke. But she admitted that she was hurt that she had not been invited to the engagement.
Interestingly, the song was not even sung first by James. Glenn Miller and his Orchestra were doing it as early as 1941 and Nat King covered it in 1957. James debuted the song in 1961.
This is not the first time Beynonce has been in trouble with other singers. She referred to Tina Turner as "The Queen" which Aretha Franklin believes is her moniker.
James other songs include "The Second Time Around" and "Tell Mama." Knowles' recent songs include "Love in this Club" and "Just Stand Up!"
So, have we heard the last of this battle or is there going to be an Etta vs. Beyonce Part II?
