They say that the reason she ballooned to the point of being the butt (no pun intended) of jokes is that Britney Spears is a couch potato. But what does that even mean, a couch potato?
Well, the main issue is sitting around all day and not doing much of anything. You see, the issue really has to do with our metabolism. For thousands of years, human beings pretty much did things the same way. We had to work hard for a living. I mean, we had to go to work in the fields and plow, and pull and push and do everything necessary to yank a bit of sustenance from the ground. In other words, we got all the exercise we needed just by going about our daily routine.
The one exception to this was the aristocracy, who didn’t have to do anything of the sort because others would do their work for them. For these people, exercise was a necessity. But they also found a form exercise outdoors. They would ride horses. Believe it or not, bouncing up and down on the back of a horse is tremendous exercise which will help you thin your body out. But on days when it was raining, they couldn’t go out. What did they do then? Well it happens I’m a fan of the Antiques Roadshow and I saw what they did. They had a “horse” made of leather and they would mount it and actually bounce up and down just as if they were riding a horse.
But what does all this have to do with Britney Spears: Couch potato? Well, since today machines can do most of the work, Britney spent much of her time sitting around and not doing much of anything. This meant that the calories she took in weren’t getting used up elsewhere and she became a fat balloon. Worse, that potato, which is in fact a healthy food is not a healthy food when eaten in excess. Especially not when it’s fried, adding tremendous amounts of fat onto the food.
In small amounts, the complex carbohydrates of the potato will work wonders on your body and help you maintain a healthy weight. But add on tons of the stuff and suddenly you became bloated and the starch of the potato will turn into sugar in your body. Add in sitting around on the couch all day and watching TV instead of doing something active and before you know it, you end up with a headline like Britney Spears: Couch Potato.
