Few are able to snag designs that just got off the runway quite like Rihanna (she’s so good, she even has a song about it). It should be no surprise then that the singer is already wearing full looks from Off-White’s latest collection, which debuted at the end of September during Paris Fashion Week.
The look in question was modeled by breakout star Kaia Gerber just a couple short weeks before finding its way onto Rihanna. The cropped blazer with oversized shoulders, mom jeans, and calf-high boots are directly inspired by Princess Diana’s off-duty fashion; as designer Virgil Abloh has explained, “[Diana] was a strong individual that despite her position had her own personal taste and it came out through the clothes. . . . It’s an inspiration.” Rihanna posted photos to her Instagram of her wearing the look in New York, posing in the same place she was found twerking backstage at the 2014 C.F.D.A. Fashion Awards in the now-infamous sheer Adam Selman gown.
This isn’t the first time Rihanna has casually stepped out in very, very fresh designer clothes. In the summer of 2013, she posted a photo to her Instagram showing off a just-debuted menswear look presented in Givenchy’s spring 2014 collection. Later, in March 2014, she stepped out in an oversized chain necklace with a lock pendant that was shown just one week earlier during Chanel’s fall 2014 show in Paris. When Rihanna sings “Phresh Out the Runway,” she actually means it.
