Carrie Underwood holds a special title. She was the first country artist to win an American Idol Competition. After she won in 2005 she released her debut single, “Inside Your Heaven.” Almost immediately it was a success and helped pave the way for the release of her first studio album, Some Hearts. The record was such a smash hit that it ultimately went platinum seven times over. The leadoff single from the CD, “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” topped Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart for several weeks.

It wasn’t long before Underwood was receiving not only commercial acclaim but also critical acclaim for her efforts in front of the microphone. She took home the Single Record of the Year and the Top Female Vocalist Awards at the 2006 Academy of Country Music Awards and also picked up honors at the Dove Awards and the CMT Awards. Later in the year she was the proud recipient of five Billboard Music Awards.

Even with her busy schedule, Underwood managed to carve out some time in the recording studio for a follow-up album to Some Hearts. Her sophomore album, Carnival Ride, officially arrived in October 2007, ushering in four tracks that immediately shot to the top of the country charts. She was another winner at the year’s Grammy Awards and eventually the album reached multi-platinum sales.

Underwood’s most recent album Play On offers up fun tracks like “Cowboy Casanova,” “Mama’s Song,” “Someday When I Stop Loving You” and “This Time.” On this record, Underwood showed off her songwriting abilities, most notably with the album’s most successful tune, “Cowboy Casanova.”
