Do Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon belong together?
After nearly two years of being separated, “there seems to be hope that they will get back together permanently,” a source tells PEOPLE exclusively.
The famously friendly exes have grown increasingly close following the singer’s split with Bryan Tanaka in April.
“Mariah and Nick are getting along great,” the source says. “Nick spends most of his time with Mariah and the kids. Mariah is great with Nick around. There seems to be hope that they will get back together permanently.”
However, an additional Carey insider tells PEOPLE that they are nothing more than pals. “Honestly, they are co-parenting,” says the insider.
Carey and Cannon both rebuffed the rumors in an interview with ET on Tuesday.
“We’re together when it counts,” insists Carey, 47, “We’re together for the kids. And I think that’s the most important thing.”
“It’s so perfect right now honestly, I’m working on being the best me that I can possibly be and from that I’m working on being the best father that I can be and that’s a plate full right there,” Cannon, 36, echoed. “I love her, I adore her, that’s always going to be my dream girl but I think as mature adults I think we just operate better with the way things are right now.”
Carey and Cannon reunited last weekend for a fun-filled day at Disneyland to celebrate the sixth birthday of their twins, Monroe and Moroccan. The proud parents both shared sweet messages to their brood on Instagram.
“I can’t believe it’s been six years since you two came into this world to the live version of Fantasy.. ‘the applause!!!’ ” Carey captioned a 2011 photo of herself holding “Dem Babies” when they were just newborns.
“I love you both more each day,” added the proud mother of two. “You are the light of my life ❤❤ #Supernatural #HappyBirthday #RocnRoe.”
Cannon — also a new dad to son Golden, 9 weeks — used Instagram to send the twins well wishes too, posting a current photo of Roc and Roe in front of elaborate matching Mickey and Minnie Mouse cakes at Disneyland.
To all appearances, the group is one big happy family. “Mariah loves having Nick around,” the initial Carey source confirms. “She’s in the best mood.”
The first week of May is a very special one in the world of celebrity birthdays. If you, like me, are a massive fan of Adele’s, then you know May 5 is her birthday. If you are also, like me, someone who loves any chance to listen to the music of Adele while simultaneously thanking the cosmos that Adele even exists, then it seems only right that we pay homage to her on this most special of days.

But how exactly can one pay tribute and send their love to one of the (in my humble opinion) greatest singers of the 21st century? Well, the only thing I can see fit to do is speak Adele’s language. That is, the language of music.
So, on that note (yes, pun intended), I compiled a playlist of songs that Adele most likely knows and loves. I’ve also made sure to include some current jams to keep things fresh. No party is complete without a good playlist. Here’s mine, on the occasion of Adele’s 29th birthday.
1. Kygo & John Legend, “Happy Birthday”
What could be better than having John Legend sing “Happy Birthday” to Adele?
2. Terence Trent D’Arby, “Wishing Well”
According to Billboard, this song was the No. 1 pop hit the week of May 7, 1988, which means this was probably one of the first songs Adele ever heard. Talk about nostalgia.
3. Etta James, “Something’s Got a Hold on Me”
Adele has name-dropped Etta James as one of her musical icons in the past. Listening to this song, it’s not hard to connect the dots between these two amazing singers.

4. Lorde, “Green Light”
OMG, this song is perfect for any occasion. Can you even imagine Adele singing the hell out of this at her party as she grooves along?
5. George Michael, “Fastlove”
Adele sang a slower version of this song in tribute to the recently deceased George Michael at the 2017 Grammys. This original, quicker tempo version feels appropriate and party-ready.
6. The Weeknd & Daft Punk, “I Feel It Coming”
The perfect song to chill to while getting into the party groove.
7. Beyoncé, “Hold Up”
Because nothing saying “Do your thing, girl, it’s your birthday,” like Beyoncé.

8. Adele, “Send My Love to Your New Lover”
We have to have just one of Adele’s own songs to celebrate her on this playlist, guys.
9. Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse, “Valerie”
A good birthday playlist always involves Amy Winehouse, especially when it’s for another jazzy, soulful Brit like Adele.
10. Harry Styles, “Sign of the Times”
Because Adele loves Harry Styles and Harry Styles loves Adele.
11. Lady Gaga, “The Cure”
Just like Adele, Lady Gaga is a consistent chart-topper who knows how to craft the perfect tune. This song is everywhere right now, so why not put it on Adele’s birthday playlist?
12. Michael Jackson, “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”
It’s not a birthday party without some Michael Jackson to listen to while you dance with your friends.
13. ODESZA, “Late Night”
This recent chart-topper is a total jam.
14. Ed Sheeran, “Shape of You”
This Ed Sheeran song is dominating the charts right now but it’s an actually amazing song, regardless of its chart status. Something tells me Adele would love it.
15. Beyoncé, “7/11”
Who’s going to say no to more Beyoncé?
16. Mr. C the Slide Man, “Cha Cha Slide”
The birthday party gods told me this was an evergreen party hit, and so, I must obey them. But for real, don’t tell me Adele wouldn’t love to hear this song at her party.
17. The Beatles, “Happy Birthday”
Because you always have to go out on a high note, here’s a final “Happy Birthday” message for you, Adele.
Here’s to a year full of nothing but good times and memories, created by and for you.
And hey you, the reader! You can celebrate Adele’s birthday too — get down with your bad self with our Adele Birthday Spotify playlist.
Some creative people have taken to the Internet to invite their favorite celebrities to certain events. It has happened with #JustinTimberlake, #MilaKunis and more recently, with #DaisyRidley, with surprisingly successful results. Seeing that, Jacob Staudenmaier – a teenager from Arizona – took to social media to invite none other than Emma Stone to his prom.
Going the extra mile, though, Staudenmaier made sure that his invitation stood out. With the help of school friends, he filmed a video of himself recreating the opening highway scene from La La Land. He also made sure to detail how their date would go and that the actress knew what a catch he was:
The clever video gained a lot of traction. Thousands of people around the interwebs began sharing it, and many more encouraged #EmmaStone to accept the offer. In light of that, the actress sent a letter to Jacob shortly after the video went viral.
That’s pretty awesome on its own, but unfortunately, Stone said she would not be able to make their date due to work commitments that had her residing on a different continent. The hopeful student went on Good Morning America to reveal the content of the letter:
“Jacob, thanks for making the greatest proposal I have ever received. I can’t tell you what an honor that was and how much I smiled through that entire beautifully orchestrated video. I’m in London working, but I hope you have the best time at Prom, and I’m grateful you thought of me. Thank you. P.S. I do see Gosling around the eyes. Love, Emma.”
But don’t jump to any conclusions just yet, because the story doesn’t end there.
A Pretty Great Prom Gift
Despite having to turn down his Promposal, Stone made sure not to disappoint Jacob. As NBC 12 News revealed, she accomplished this by sending him a really awesome gift: A corsage for his date and a boutonniere for himself along with another hand-written letter:
The letter reads:
“Jacob, a little something for you and your lucky date tomorrow. Have a great time! Much love, Emma Stone.”
Fortunately, the teenagers put the gifts to good use, as both Jacob and his date can be seen wearing them in a picture he uploaded to Instagram to capture the special occasion:
I must say, that was an awesome gift. After she sent that letter following his music video, the actress could have just left things there and move on. Instead, she made sure to be involved in the event, even if it was in a small way.
This gesture will surely be a great anecdote for her fans. Idolizing a star and later finding out they’re not what they seem can be heart-breaking. But with this, Stone just proved she’s just as awesome and sweet in real life as she in every interview.
